A Christian Community in the Roman Catholic Christian Tradition
Evangelization Committee
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." MT 5:14-16
Being Jesus and Sharing Jesus
The word "evangelization" – derived from the Greek for "Good News" – describes those activities by which the Church proclaims the saving message of Christ as contained in the Gospel accounts of His words and actions.
In Baptism, every Christian receives the commission to bear witness to the message and work of Christ, so that others may believe in him.
At Our Lady of the Chesapeake, we take our Baptismal commission seriously and try to live out Christ's Gospel message in all that we do. Hence, our evangelization efforts can best be seen by what we, as a parish community, do and say. We believe that in many cases, the only Gospel message that people will "hear," is the one that they will "see" others live, especially in terms of service and outreach to those in need.
The National Conference of Catholic Bishops set forth three goals for evangelization:
We invite you to help us spread the Good News of Christ by living out his Gospel message as individuals, as members of our families, and as citizens in our communities.
Additionally, if you should feel called to participate as a member of our evangelization efforts and help plan parish activities and events that will proclaim and communicate Christ's Gospel message, please call Mrs. MaryHelen Gurney (410-255-4437).
