Pastoral Advisory Council

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit; rather, humbly regard others more important than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." Philippians 2: 3-4
Welcome to the Pastoral Advisory Council of Our Lady of the Chesapeake! We are blessed to have so many talented, dedicated Gospel People engaged in the welfare of pastoral life here at Our Lady of the Chesapeake. The Holy Father has addressed the world over and over again with a consistent message asking for the birth of a "NEW Evangelization." Therefore we continue to center our prayer, planning, and strategy on this Christian initiative.
To make this theme a reality, the Pastoral Advisory Council has adopted an organizational format that consists of five "Ministry Coordinators" (Education, Service, Liturgy, Stewardship, and Evangelization) who represent almost every committee and organization in the parish.
Consequently, our emphasis is on unveiling the interrelatedness of our ministries. We focus on how each one of us and each one of our ministries are "part of a circle" that care for the larger community of Lake Shore.
We also continue to use our monthly gatherings as a time of personal spiritual renewal as we, together, attempt to truly grasp what it means to answer the call to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Membership
The council consists of 8-20 members, all sixteen years of age or older, except for one member from the Youth Ministry who may be 12-15 years old. Ex officio members include the pastor, permanent deacons, director of religious education, youth minister, and other staff persons involved in the direct pastoral care of parishioners. These members and the member from the Youth Ministry have a full voice in council discussions but do not vote.
The pastor appoints members to the council. Any lay person who is 16 years or older and who is a baptized, confirmed, and registered member of the parish in good standing is eligible for appointment by the pastor.
Appointed members serve a term of one year and may be asked to serve a consecutive term. No parishioner may serve more than 3 consecutive full terms.
Seven regular meetings of the council have been scheduled for the 2009-2010 Fiscal Year. They will be held from 7:00 - 9:00 pm on the 4th Wednesday of September, October, November, January, February, March, and April. Council meetings are open to the public. If you have something to present to the council, please submit your request to the chair in writing one week prior to the meeting. Thank you!
An end-of-year meeting will be held in May to review the past year's accomplishments and to discuss plans for the 2010-2011 Fiscal Year.
